American flights to get reduced legroom in economy

American Airlines has decided to reduce the space between a few seats in the economy class at least by two inches.

This is due to the fact that this airliner has been planning to add more seats to its brand new Boeing 737 Max planes. With an aim to achieve this goal, three rows on each of the new aircraft would have their pitch slump from 31 inches to 29 inches.

And, this, of course implies that the distance between the seats in the remaining portion of the cabin of economy would shrink to 30 inches.

This decision of American Airlines to minimize pitch actually places the carrier in the same conversation like the low-cost airliners including Spirit and Frontier that have their seats about 28 inches apart from each other. In addition, the decision also puts American Airlines behind important U.S. carriers like Alaska, Southwest and Jetblue that have pitches on their economy seats between 31 to 33 inches.

The new Boeing 737 Max airplanes would feature over 170 seats as compared to the exiting 160 it currently possesses on the Boeing 737 to 800s of this airliner.

Apart from this, the restrooms on the new planes would also be comparatively smaller. Other airlines like the United have also started incorporating similar changes to their seat layouts on their new aircrafts. The new single-aisle aircraft of American is expected to go into service with the adjustable pitch by the end of this year.
