It is expected to become
reality in 2015 following the city's decision to sign an agreement with Basel
Aero – part of Russia’s Basic Element Group – to build the new 9,000sqm
complex.
Operator, Basel Aero, will
fund the project as part of its commitment to upgrading the infrastructure of
the Southern Russia gateway.
Under the terms of its
agreement with the city, the new two-storey facility, capable of handling up to
700 passengers per hour, will be constructed near the existing terminal area.
According to Basel Aero,
it will serve domestic airlines, allowing the existing 5,000sqm passenger
terminal to become a dedicated facility for international traffic.
The terminal will boast
energy-efficient technology (solar batteries), environmentally-friendly
materials and the latest safety and security systems and technologies, claims Basel
Aero.
Other features are set to
include a number of news shops and restaurants, a business lounge and a
playground for kids.
When complete, Anapa Airport
will have tripled in size in terms of passenger facilities and be equipped to
accommodate up to 1,100 passengers per hour.
Basel Aero CEO, Leonid
Sergeev, enthuses: “The expansion of the airport is of major significance for
all Russians who prefer domestic resorts, and Anapa in particular, as a
comfortable recreation place for families.
"The airport’s
blueprint will be completed by the end of 2013 with construction starting in 2014.”
Anapa Mayor, Sergey
Sergeev, comments: “Anapa is a major resort for Russian families visited by
over three million people annually, and we expect growth in demand for tourist
services.
"As a result of the
expected growth, the capacity of our transportation infrastructure needs to be
increased and the quality of services improved."
In addition to Anapa,
Basel Aero operates Sochi , Krasnoda and
Gelendzhik airports in Russia .
