Air France returns to Seychelles on 31st October

Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για Air France returns to Seychelles on 31st October

Air France is restarting its non-stop direct flights to Seychelles commencing 31st October. After many years of absence, the blue, white and red tail of the Air France Colours will once again be landing at Seychelles International Airport.
The last couple of years since Air Seychelles discontinued its own service to Paris, the route had been left to JOON, the low-cost carrier of Air France. But the recent announcements about the future of JOON has prompted Air France to re-look at Seychelles once again.
The relaunch of Air France flights is a real benefit for the mid-ocean islands that are so dependent on tourism for their economy. France remains the main tourism source market for Seychelles. The private sector trade of the islands have invested millions over the years in that source market that knew Seychelles and that saw the tropical year-round destination as an ideal holiday spot. The French Language is one of the island's three Official Languages.
The arrival of Air France is seen as a benefit for the Seychelles tourism industry. The advertising might of the airline will help the visibility of the islands. This news could not have come at a better time for Seychelles as it prepares for its annual participation at TOP RESA, the Paris Tourism Trade Fair in the coming weeks.

WTM London and Travel Forward 2019 poised to be most successful event

Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για WTM London and Travel Forward 2019 poised to be most successful event

WTM London 2019, which takes place between Monday 4 – Wednesday 6 November, is poised to be the most successful event yet with more Ideas Arriving at WTM London than ever before.
This year, WTM London turns 40 and 50,000 senior travel professionals, 9,000 buyers, 5,000 exhibitors and 3,000 members of the media, from over 180 countries are invited to join in with the celebrations.

And, as a special gift to delegates, organisers have simplified the online registration process, upgraded its popular meetings tool, and added new technology to help capture leads. This all means exhibitors and visitors can get the most out of their time and investment during the three days of WTM London.

Around one million business meetings take place at WTM London, all generating ideas that will fuel the future of the travel and the tourism industry.

The Regional Inspiration Zones will continue to be the focal areas of each section on the show floor. They will host dedicated regional content and networking events, helping all participants generate a huge number of new ideas, which they will be able to take back to their business and implement.

WTM London’s Ideas Arrive Here concept – introduced in 2018 – has once again been woven into the entire 2019 programme, with three key themes: Innovative Perspectives, New Possibilities and Inspiring Fresh Thinking. These concepts will be stimulated and enforced by the long list of headline speakers already signed up and due to be announced soon who are from companies and organisations like Virgin, Thomas Cook, Hilton and UNWTO.

Monday 4 November will remain an exhibitor invite-only day, allowing exhibitors to conduct business meetings with key suppliers. The event will kick off with the WTM Speed Networking Event at 9am, before the exhibition floor opens at 10am.

Tuesday 5 November will host the UNWTO & WTM Ministers’ Summit, with the day also starting with a Speed Networking session with buyers split by the sector they purchase in. Later that evening, WTM London will present the International Travel & Tourism Awards for a second year at brand new London venue, Magazine. The Awards will recognise, reward and celebrate the best in the global travel industry.

Wednesday 6 November will host World Responsible Tourism Day – the largest day of responsible tourism action in the world.

WTM London’s 40th anniversary will be celebrated through a collection of parties on the last day of the show. WTM Festivals will be hosted by exhibitors and partners where they will be showcasing their culture, music and cuisine.

Throughout the three days, WTM’s exciting new video concept, #WTMStories, gives viewers an insight into travel trends as seen through the eyes of key industry figures and consumers. In another first, networking opportunities at senior level have been upgraded, with the introduction of an invitation-only Leaders’ Lunch on day one.

Travel Forward, the travel technology event co-located with WTM London, is back for a second year with a conference, exhibition and Startup Showcase programme to unlock new opportunities in the face of increasing competition. This year Hackathon, an event where participants race to solve computer and software problems, will be introduced over the three days.

As the title of Travel Forward 2019 – From Disruption to Delivery: Transforming Travel with Technology suggests, the conference delivers insights to senior decision-makers as they set strategy and plan for the future.

For both events, new technology has been utilised to create a better onsite experience for exhibitors and buyers at WTM London and Travel Forward, so they can pre-arrange meetings and get the most out of their time at the show.

The popular My Event tool has been replaced with a far superior system, called Connect Me, which has better search functionality and a better operating algorithm, which means media, buyers and exhibitors will receive targeted recommendations matched to their business needs.

Meanwhile, Emperia is a free app allowing exhibitors to scan stand visitors’ badges to capture leads and better understand who visits their stand. The leads are then emailed every day to the exhibitor contact so they have this information at their fingertips.

To celebrate the importance of the growing global tourism sector, the seven days surrounding WTM London – November 1 and November 7 – have been named London Travel Week.

London Travel Week brings together these key industry events and creates the largest festival supporting the global travel and tourism industry in the world. There are countless industry events taking place all over London, which combine to create a world-class travel-hub.

WTM London, Senior Director, Simon Press said: “WTM London continues to improve every year, with 2019 poised to be the most successful yet. As well as celebrating 40 years, there are many new initiatives for the 2019 event, all designed to help facilitate ideas creation in the travel and tourism industry.

“Furthermore, we anticipate more than £3.5 billion worth of business will be agreed due to this year’s event between more than 5,000 exhibitors and more than 10,000 senior industry buyers.”

Travel Forward, Event Manager, Richard Gayle, added: “Travel Forward will once again inspire the travel and hospitality industry with the next generation of technology. We are delighted with the response we have had going into our second year. The conference programme includes senior executives from leading technology companies including Google, Virgin Hyperloop One, Expedia, KLM, Heathrow Express, Facebook, Accenture and Edwardian Hotels.

Baird/STR Hotel Stock Index drops 6.6% in August

HENDERSONVILLE, TENNESSEE, and MILWAUKEE — The Baird/STR Hotel Stock Index dropped 6.6% in August to 4,561. Year to date through the first eight months of 2019, the index is up 12.1%.
“Hotel stocks declined and underperformed their benchmarks again in August as macroeconomic concerns continue to be front and center for investors,” said Michael Bellisario, senior hotel research analyst and VP at Baird. “RevPAR trends have been sluggish lately, broader growth uncertainties remain a headwind for investor sentiment and most hotel management teams expect the slow pace of growth to continue for the remainder of the year, all of which has caused hotel stocks to be relative underperformers in recent months.”
“The current performance environment is a seesaw with stops at good, ok and poor news,” said Amanda Hite, STR’s president and CEO. “In July, the industry sold more rooms than any other month on record, and the RevPAR upcycle hit a record 111 months in a 113-month span. But ADR growth of 0.7% in July and 1.1% year to date is below or just at the level of inflation, which does not bode well for profit growth. All chain scales and classes are equally affected by the lack of ADR and RevPAR growth, and as our latest forecast projects, we do not expect the fundamentals to change rapidly in either direction.”
August performance of the Baird/STR Hotel Stock Index was behind both the S&P 500 (-1.8%) and the MSCI US REIT Index (+3.1%).
The Hotel Brand sub-index decreased 7.5% from July to 7,254 while the Hotel REIT sub-index declined 4.5% to 1,407.

Regional Express (Rex) today announced the introduction of the highly successful Rex Community Fare scheme between King Island and Melbourne. The introduction of this community-focused initiative coincides with an agreement being reached with King Island Council in regards to the King Island Airport charges.

The Rex Community Fare between King Island and Melbourne will be priced at $99.00 each way and will be available outside of 30 days prior to departure, subject to Community Fare availability, in addition to all remaining unsold seats within 24 hours prior to departure.

Warrick Lodge, Rex General Manager Network Strategy & Sales said, “I would like to thank the King Island Council, under the leadership of Mayor Julie Arnold and newly appointed General Manager Greg Alomes, for cooperatively and transparently working with Rex to achieve a mutually beneficial outcome to Council and the Airline. The $99 Rex Community Fare will directly benefit local residents by making air travel more affordable to the socio-economic benefit of King Island”.

“King Island becomes the 38th regional community to receive the highly coveted and praised Rex Community Fare. Rex and its predecessor Kendell Airlines have almost 40 years of experience in servicing the air travel needs of King Island, so Rex well understands the importance of this initiative to the local King Island community.”

U.K. starts £1 million funding crackdown on health tourism

Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για U.K. starts £1 million funding crackdown on health tourism

The U.K. ministers have started a crackdown on health tourism by announcing a £1 million drive to reclaim outstanding debts from visitors. The Health Secretary Matt Hancock has handed the seven-figure funding boost to the team tasked with recovering money from overseas visitors who have failed to pay for their healthcare while in the U.K.

The Department for Health and Social Care said a “significant proportion” of visitor debt remains unpaid.
In the latest sign of Boris Johnson’s bid to woo Leave voters, Mr Hancock said it was “only fair we ask overseas visitors to pay their way”. The Prime Minister has already announced that he plans to introduce an Australian-style points-based immigration system after Brexit, to ensure migrants coming to Britain are well-skilled.

Under the current rules, those residing in the U.K. who are not British nationals or from the European Economic Area are required to pay a health fee when they apply for a visa to live temporarily in the U.K.

But the Government of U.K. said that some visitors are circumventing the rules to exploit the NHS’s free-at-entry system.

In comments made to the Sunday Express and Mail on Sunday, Mr Hancock said that their beloved NHS is renowned around the world for providing high quality health care and it is able to do so thanks to the valuable contributions made by hardworking taxpayers – so it is only fair we ask overseas visitors to pay their way as well.

This new drive will help recoup millions in unclaimed funds for our NHS which can go back into frontline patient care, so the NHS can be there for all of us when we need it most.
A Government spokesman said that while “significant strides” had been made in ensuring non-UK NHS users were charged, significant proportions of unpaid debt remain outstanding.

The extra money from the Secretary of State will be used to accelerate the crackdown on health tourism as the minority administration pledged to “make sure every penny of taxpayers’ investment in the NHS benefits patients”.

New recruits will be added to the team that was established last year to support NHS trusts to “identify and recover” payments still due from oversea visitors. The additional staff will help ensure the rules and exemptions involved when charging are understood and applied at hospitals across the country.

Despite charges for overseas visitors, there are exemptions in place to protect the most vulnerable – such as refugees, children and victims of modern slavery – to ensure urgent care is not withheld.

Jason Dorsett, chief finance officer at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said the recovery team’s assistance had lifted the “administrative burden” on his staff. They have learnt alternative ways to identify chargeable overseas patients. The implementation of digital tools has reduced the administrative burden on previous methods resulting in a rise of income and cash recovery.

Pete Papworth, director of finance at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, added that they have seen a significant improvement in our identification of chargeable overseas patients and an increase in the associated income.

Benchmark announces the top ten dining trends for 2020

Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για Benchmark announces the top ten dining trends for 2020

THE WOODLANDS (HOUSTON), TEXAS - Benchmark, a global hospitality company, is looking to the future with its just-released Top Dining Trends for 2020. “More than recognizing trends, Benchmark properties are evolving food and beverage programming to not only remain relevant amid consumer demand but ensure we are operating responsibly,” says Olivier Gaupin, Benchmark’s Director of Culinary Operations.
Patrick Berwald, Benchmark’s Vice President of Food and Beverage goes on to say, “in addition to offering engaging experiences to each and every one of our guests, Benchmark’s position on food and beverage is to offer the opportunity to learn, focus on wellness and be part of something greater.”
2020 Dining Trend #1 | The Notorious C.B.D.
The CBD food trend has exploded in the last twelve months. Coffee shops and cafes in many American cities are now boasting a startling array of offerings infused with CBD oil, aimed at attracting customers interested in trying new eco-friendly, plant-based ingredients. Restaurants have also begun to incorporate the oil into their menus, both for drinks and food. What’s CBD or Cannabidiol It’s a naturally occurring, non-psychoactive compound found in the resinous flower of Cannabis, a plant with a rich history as a medicine - going back thousands of years and known to reduce pain, stress and anxiety. CBD-infused drinks are also quickly gaining momentum as serious contenders in the popular beverage market, including sparkling waters, coffees, teas, energy drinks, beer, wine and mixed alcoholic beverages.
2020 Dining Trend #2 | The Incredible Sprouting Plant Ecosystem
More and more people are choosing to move away from beef, pork, and poultry, but honestly, these proteins aren't going completely away any time soon. Many in society, though, are making a conscious decision to make a dietary switch into the plant-based ecosystem. Plant-based food alternatives are being provided for meat and dairy. They are using the art of cooking and food invention to recreate meat and dairy flavors from non-meat and non-dairy products like soy, peas, cashews, and almonds. In 2020, we expect this trend to grow rapidly. This culminates from years of research and studies, to make plant-based food items equally delicious and as desirable as real meat and dairy products. Many restaurants have encouraged veg-forward eating habits. By 2020, we predict that they will have a dedicated menu for plant-based food items.
2020 Dining Trend #3 | Puffed the Magic Snack
We have always been told chips are an unhealthy snack option and to stay as far away from them as possible. There are new products on the snack food market, however, that are providing healthier versions than chips. With ingredients like chickpeas, beets, quinoa, and kale, these snacks are going to make “snacking” alright even if you have the whole bag of chips. They may not be the most appealing aesthetically but are going to satisfy snack cravings effectively. Expect this crunchy trend to build in 2020.
2020 Dining Trend #4 | Jackfruit – Possible & Beyond
The newest go-to meat substitute is jackfruit. Already being used as an alternative for barbecue pulled pork, jackfruit is a southeast Asian fruit that is a great source of iron, calcium, and B vitamins. The texture of jackfruit mimics the texture of pulled pork and will soon become a force in the food industry as a meat alternative.
2020 Dining Trend #5 | Fruit Forward
Among the usual sweet flavors found on beverage menus, unique fruit flavors, such as cactus, are taking mixology ideation by storm. More specifically, spiny cactus fruits such as prickly pear and dragon fruit are peaking consumer interest. Prickly pears are a seeded fruit that yields an intensely flavorful ruby colored juice, while dragon fruit (AKA pitaya or strawberry pear) is also attracting the attention of consumers because of its sweet and sour flavor profile. Consumers are also exploring more unique fruit flavor varieties, including bergamot orange, yuzu, calamansi, citron, makrut lime, pomelo, Meyer lemon, blood orange and ugli fruit (a Jamaican form of the tangelo) to name a few.
2020 Dining Trend #6 | Dairy Remix
Step aside almond and soy, oat milk has emerged as the golden child of all the alternative milks. It’s terrific in coffees, and baristas can barely keep it in stock. So, it makes sense that companies are piggybacking off its success and launching other oat milk products as alternatives to dairy, to help minimize the environmental impacts associated with animal husbandry.

2020 Dining Trend #7 | Sparkling Results
Sparkling water demand is exploding, driven in part by consumers who are concerned about sugar but still looking to satisfy their craving for carbonation.  Operators looking to harness these trends and turn them into more traffic or higher check averages should not only offer beverages that feature unique flavors, low-alcohol (or no-alcohol) sparkling waters and more, but they should also make sure to promote these types of drinks on social media.  By ensuring diners – particularly younger influencers - know what new and exciting drinks are available, operators can count on attracting these new and affluent repeat beverage consumers.
2020 Dining Trend #8 | Bright & Bold
In terms of flavors and colors, consumers are looking for bright, bold, appealing hues. Color generates emotional appeal with food-it may be as important as taste. Skilled food and beverage operators have an eye for what beverages succeed on social media, where color is critically important, looking for products that are “Instagram-friendly”.  Color and functionality collide with ingredients such as blue algae, beet, matcha, butterfly pea flower tea – popular in Southeast Asia.  Butterfly pea flower tea is high in antioxidants and naturally changes color from blue to purple when acidity is added to it.
2020 Dining Trend #9 | More Traceability
As news about climate change, disappearing rainforests and plastic in the oceans dominate the news cycle and our social feeds, consumers are demanding sustainability in all forms of packaging - quickly making this integral to today’s food and beverage operating model.  Whether it’s swapping out Styrofoam and plastic for paper or bamboo, or buying ingredients from sustainable sources, sustainability will sweep the entire industry in 2020.  The heightened focus on single-use plastics is not just a fad but a reality that goes beyond the purge of the plastic straw.
2020 Dining Trend #10 | Ugly Produce
Food is a terrible thing to waste. It’s bad for people and the planet, and yet 40% of all the food produced in the US goes uneaten because it is imperfect.  From farms to fridges, food waste is a massive problem that has infiltrated every level of our food system. Now, consumers are finally accepting misshapen, bruised, and just down-right ugly foods as totally edible. Start-up food companies that send boxes of said fruit and vegetables directly to the customer’s home will encourage consumers to buy produce that is nutritious and tastes fine, but is physically flawed in some way.

Ctrip to boost Chinese tourism to Morocco

Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για Ctrip to boost Chinese tourism to Morocco

Ctrip, Asia’s largest online travel agent, has formally signed a strategic co-operation agreement with Morocco’s National Tourism Office to boost Chinese tourism to Morocco.
James Liang, Chairman and Co-founder of Ctrip, met with an official Moroccan delegation led by Mr. Saad Eddine El Othman, Prime Minister of Morocco. Official attendees included Mr. Mohamed Sajid, Minister of Tourism, Air Transport, Handicrafts and Social Economy, and Mr. Adel El Fakir, Director General of Morocco’s National Tourism Office.
The partnership will span over three years and aims to increase exposure of Moroccan destinations in the China, notably through digital marketing campaigns. With over 60 years of diplomatic relations, a China-Morocco Year of Culture and Tourism planned for 2020, and a visa exemption policy in place since 2016, Morocco has opened its doors to embrace Chinese tourists.
In the three years since the introduction of the visa exemption policy, the number of Chinese tourists visiting the country has soared from 43,000 in 2016 to 200,000 in 2018. According to Ctrip flight data, Morocco was the third most popular destination in Africa for Chinese outbound tourists during the 2019 summer holiday season, following Rwanda and Namibia. The number of flights booked from China to Morocco grew 140% compared to last summer.
But there is so much more potential, James Liang remarked. "Morocco is such a beautiful country, with many rich experiences awaiting Chinese visitors. But up until this point, the proportion of Chinese tourists visiting the region has remained relatively low."
Αποτέλεσμα εικόνας για Ctrip to boost Chinese tourism to Morocco
Morocco has its sights set on improving its capacity to host tourists, working primarily to upgrade its accommodation and transportation sectors. The country hopes to more than double the number of Chinese tourists visiting the country annually in 2020 to 500,000 and is currently in discussions with airlines to open a direct flight route between Morocco and China.
Working with Ctrip, Morocco will further benefit from social media exposure and package tour product development, among other points of collaboration, to help the country realise its tourism aspirations.
The co-operation will mainly take place in the areas of product development and marketing, with Ctrip building upon the foundation of its already popular Southern European group itineraries and working towards making the location more accessible for individual travelers. Liang said, "for us, today is a new beginning. There is so much potential for Morocco, and I look forward to working together, to put this beautiful country on the itineraries of both tour groups and independent travelers in the coming years."
Mr. Mohamed Sajid, Morocco’s Minister of Tourism, Air Transport, Handicrafts and Social Economy said, “we hope to attract 500,000 Chinese tourists in 2020, and with Ctrip, I am certain we will make good progress towards earning a place among the world's top 20 destinations."
Mr. Adel El Fakir, Director General of the Moroccan Tourism Office (ONMT) said, “Morocco is home to a wealth of cuisine and culture, and we’d love to share this with more Chinese tourists. Our partnership with Ctrip will help us to better cater to their needs and ensure that Moroccan destinations achieve maximum exposure in the Chinese market.”
Together, Ctrip will help Morocco to achieve the country's 2020 Vision, which aims to earn it a place among the ranks of the the world’s top travel destinations, and to support tourism as the driving force for financial, social, and cultural development in Morocco.
