Dubai International Airport was also recognized as the busiest airport globally in both 2023 and April 2024, this expansion is specifically designed to enhance passenger experiences and provide more straightforward access.Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, has recently unveiled the plans for this significant expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport. Projected to handle 260 million passengers, the project is set to reinforce Dubai’s role as a premier hub of global connectivity and urban sophistication.
In his announcement, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the critical importance of this project for future generations. He detailed the ambitious expansion that includes the construction of five parallel runways and 400 aircraft gates, with a projected cost of about AED 128 billion, or approximately $35 billion over the next decade.
This monumental project will not only redefine Dubai’s aviation landscape but also lead to the development of a new city surrounding the airport. Estimated to house one million people, the planned urban expansion involves an investment of AED 128 billion over ten years.
The airport is poised to become the centerpiece of Dubai South, a planned economic zone covering 55 square miles, envisioned as a bustling hub for business and innovation.
Sheikh Mohammed also pointed out the significant role that advanced aviation technologies will play in defining the future of the airport, marking a new era of efficiency and connectivity.
