The partnership is being implemented through the Unico Campania consortium, which manages integrated ticketing for multiple public transport operators in the region. Nexi’s technological infrastructure will support JCB payments across the consortium’s ticketing and access ecosystem.
Millions of tourists, including more than 181 million JCB Cardmembers, primarily from Asia, will be able to use the Tap & Go service. The service enables passengers to access public transport and purchase tickets by tapping a contactless payment card or smartphone at enabled gates and ticket validators.
The service will be progressively introduced across a range of metro lines, funiculars and buses in the Campania region. JCB Cards will also be accepted throughout the Unico Campania ecosystem, including physical ticket offices and info points.
For passengers, the service provides the option to travel without purchasing tickets in advance, along with contactless payment, increased convenience and security, automatic best-fare calculation based on journeys taken within a 24-hour period, and access to public transport through enabled gates and validators.
The agreement between JCB and Nexi forms part of the digitalisation of urban mobility services in Campania and highlights the use of digital payments within the development of public services.

In May 2024, JCB and Nexi introduced the payment model for the first time in Europe within public transport in Rome, marking the introduction of the model in European urban mobility services. The service will be progressively made available across several lines and services operated within the Unico Campania Consortium. The list of services where the payment option is enabled is being updated on the official Unico Campania website.
