Designing Hotels with a Stronger Sense of Place

Across Accor's portfolio, culturally rooted design is helping hotel owners reposition existing assets as distinctive, socially active, and operationally efficient destinations. Working with local architects and Accor’s Design & Technical Services teams, owners are transforming properties through concepts grounded in local history, craftsmanship, and culture.

The result is a stronger sense of place, greater differentiation, and experiences that can support pricing power and guest loyalty.

Redesigned lobbies and reception areas are also becoming flexible commercial spaces that combine arrival, retail, dining, and bar concepts. By creating new revenue-generating touchpoints within the existing footprint, these areas can contribute more directly to hotel performance.

Sustainability is integrated from the outset through considered material selection, spatial planning, and technical solutions. From LEED Gold and BREEAM certifications to smart lighting and water-saving systems, these approaches support operational efficiency, long-term asset value, and the expectations of ESG-conscious investors and guests.

Thoughtful design is more than a cost center—it is a strategic investment in stronger performance, local relevance, and long-term resilience.
