ACI World opens applications for 2026 Airport Innovation Awards

MONTREAL – Airports Council International (ACI) World has opened submissions for the 2026 Airport Innovation Awards, inviting airports globally to present initiatives that are shaping the future of the airport industry.

Now in its sixth year, the awards continue under a renewed title, highlighting the growing importance of innovation in addressing evolving passenger expectations, operational challenges and sustainability requirements.

As global demand for air travel increases, airports are focusing on improving performance, expanding capacity and strengthening resilience across their operations. Innovation is identified as a key driver in delivering value for passengers and stakeholders within the aviation ecosystem.

ACI World members are invited to submit entries across four categories: best innovation in passenger-related processes, best innovation in airport operations and installations management, best airport innovation leader (individual), and best innovation for airports handling five million passengers or fewer annually.

Justin Erbacci, Director General of Airports Council International (ACI) World, stated: “Innovation drives progress across the airport industry by turning ideas into practical solutions that deliver real results. Airports worldwide are improving the passenger experience, increasing capacity and operational efficiency, and advancing sustainability. The ACI World Airport Innovation Awards recognize the leadership and initiatives making a measurable difference.”

The awards programme recognises projects and leadership initiatives that enhance passenger experience, improve operational efficiency and optimise processes for passengers, employees and aviation stakeholders. Submissions will be evaluated based on impact, scalability and contribution to industry advancement.

Applications are open until 16 June 2026 and will be assessed by an international panel of industry experts.

Winners and the top five finalists in each category will be announced during the Awards Ceremony at the ACI Airports Innovate event, scheduled to take place from 23 to 25 November 2026 in Barcelona. The winners will also be invited to present their initiatives during a dedicated session at the conference.

The Airports Innovate event is jointly organised by ACI EuropeACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East and Airports Council International (ACI) World.
