The USMCA Travel and Tourism Resiliency Act aims to build a cooperation framework between the three countries to support cross border travel and tourism.
It calls for a Travel and Tourism Trade Working Group within the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
It was first introduced by a Republican and a Democrat Senator last week.
It was also introduced in the House of Representatives today.
“Travel and tourism are vital not only to Nevada’s economy, but to the economy of the United States as a whole,” said Senator Cortez Masto.
“As we’ve seen over the past year, tariffs, trade, and international cooperation play a large role in either promoting or deterring international travel. It’s critical that we do what we can to invite Canada and Mexico to support the American travel industry.”
The USMCA was formed in 2020 to work toward international cooperation and mutual trade across several sectors but didn’t include the tourism industry.
The bill has gained support from the U.S. Travel Association.
It’s a timely move with the three countries sharing hosting duties for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
“For districts like ours that welcome millions of visitors each year, tourism isn’t just an industry, it’s a driver of jobs and economic growth,” said Rep. Vern Buchanan.
“As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, ensuring seamless, efficient travel between the United States, Canada and Mexico is essential to keeping our tourism industry strong.”
