ETOA and Trippz partner on tourism taxes

European Tourism Association (ETOA) and Trippz have announced a strategic partnership aimed at improving knowledge, policy and operational processes related to tourism taxes across Europe.

Tourism taxes are becoming increasingly prevalent as public sector budgets face pressure and some destinations return to full-rate VAT on accommodation. While such taxes represent a direct financial contribution from tourism, they can affect commercial margins when introduced at short notice. The overall net benefit and cumulative impact are often not clearly understood by stakeholders.

In response to this evolving landscape, ETOA and Trippz will collaborate to ensure that accurate, actionable and up-to-date information on tourism taxes is available to ETOA members. The partnership also seeks to support better-informed research, policy discussions and the sharing of good practice among public and private stakeholders.

ETOA supports the European tourism industry through advocacy and the provision of expert insight to members and policymakers. Trippz develops products and services designed to simplify the management of tourism taxes, while contributing to policy debate through data and operational expertise.

The partnership will focus on improving access to practical information on tourism taxes in Europe, reducing financial and administrative burdens for accommodation providers and their clients, raising awareness among policymakers to support more effective regulation, enhancing both actual and perceived benefits for host communities and visitors, and encouraging collaboration and innovation in related product and business development.

The initiative aims to increase transparency and efficiency in the use and management of tourism taxes, while strengthening understanding of their individual and cumulative impact across European destinations.

Tim Fairhurst, Secretary General of European Tourism Association (ETOA), stated: “Trippz and their data allow us to focus where we can add most value: supporting our members, bringing industry insight to tax policy, and staying close to in-destination plans and practice.”

Ingmar Lambregts, CEO of Trippz, said: “Managing tourism taxes at scale is no longer a manual exercise. It requires structured data, automation and continuous monitoring. Through Trippz, we provide that infrastructure. Our partnership with ETOA strengthens the bridge between regulation and operational reality, helping travel companies manage complexity with confidence.”
