HALF A BILLION AND GROWING: WIZZ AIR REACHES HISTORIC 500 MILLION PASSENGER MILESTONE

Wizz Air, one of Europe’s leading low-cost airlines, today celebrates a significant milestone in its history: 500 million passengers flown since the start of its operations. This remarkable achievement marks a defining moment in the airline’s growth trajectory and further strengthens its position as a major force in the European aviation landscape.

Reaching half a billion passengers is far more than a symbolic milestone. It represents 500 million travel choices made by customers who continue to choose Wizz Air for its accessible fares, extensive network, and reliable travel experience. The airline has now flown more people than the entire population of the European Union, underscoring the scale of its impact on air travel accessibility. This achievement is the result of a consistently strong customer proposition – combining competitive pricing, broad network coverage, and a reliable experience that inspires repeat travel.

Reaching 500 million passengers is an extraordinary milestone that reflects our ability to fundamentally reshape how people travel,” said József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air. “This achievement is the culmination of 22 years of relentless growth and disciplined execution, and it demonstrates the trust that hundreds of millions of customers have placed in Wizz Air by choosing us time and again. We didn’t just grow – we outpaced the market, expanding our network, strengthening our bases, and reaching record levels of traffic and investment. While many airlines founded in the early 2000s have since disappeared, Wizz Air has risen to become one of Europe’s leading low‑cost carriers. This milestone gives us powerful momentum as we continue to broaden our network, scale our operations, and shape the future of air travel together with our passengers around the world.”

What makes this milestone truly remarkable is the speed at which it was achieved. Wizz Air carried its first 100 million passengers in 11 years, doubled that total in just four more, and expanded from 200 to 300 million in only three years – including the COVID period. It then added an exceptional 200 million passengers in the past three years alone, reaching 500 million in just close to 22 years since its launch. In contrast, a major competitor needed more than three decades to reach the same milestone, underscoring Wizz Air’s position as one of the fastest‑growing airlines in European aviation history.

This milestone is the result of a clear and disciplined growth strategy, as well as a testament to its resilience. Today, it stands as the third‑largest low‑cost airline in Europe – a clear reflection of the strength of its business model and long‑term vision.
