Miami Beach tops global rankings as the most expensive New Year’s Eve hotel destination

Miami Beach has been identified as the most expensive destination worldwide for accommodation on New Year’s Eve, according to a new survey released by Cheaphotels.org.

The survey compared hotel rates across 60 major cities globally, focusing on the cheapest available double room for a three-night stay from December 30 to January 2. Only centrally located hotels rated at least three stars were included in the analysis, providing a consistent benchmark for year-end pricing trends.

With a minimum rate of $1,187 for the three-night period, Miami Beach topped the rankings. According to the survey, this represents a 197% increase compared to regular hotel rates in January, underlining the significant premium travelers are paying to spend New Year’s Eve in the city.

Completing the top three are Rio de Janeiro and New York City, with minimum rates of $1,172 and $1,164 respectively for the same three-night stay. Both destinations continue to demonstrate strong demand during the festive period, driven by large-scale celebrations and international appeal.

The survey also highlights notable year-on-year changes compared to 2022, when the study was last conducted. In percentage terms, hotel rates increased the most in Bangkok, where New Year’s Eve prices are up by 94%. Significant increases were also recorded in Copenhagen (+67%) and Vienna (+85%), reflecting strong post-pandemic demand in key urban destinations.

In contrast, the steepest price decline was observed in Phnom Penh, where hotel rates have fallen by more than 60% compared to three years ago. At an average of just $20 per night, Phnom Penh is also the least expensive city in the survey for spending New Year’s Eve, positioning it as a highly affordable alternative during the peak festive period.
