TOULOUSE, FRANCE – Airbus has issued an update on the rollout of precautionary measures for A320 Family aircraft, following the publication of an Alert Operators Transmission (AOT) on 28 November. The AOT called for immediate action on a number of in-service aircraft as part of a global safety-focused initiative.
According to the manufacturer, out of a total of around 6,000 potentially impacted A320 Family aircraft, the vast majority have now received the required modifications. The company is continuing to work with airline customers worldwide to complete modifications on fewer than 100 remaining aircraft so they can be returned to service.
In its update, Airbus acknowledged the operational impact for carriers and travellers: “Airbus apologises for any challenges and delays caused to passengers and airlines by this event. The Company thanks its customers, the authorities, its employees and all relevant stakeholders involved for their support in implementing these measures, and for their understanding of Airbus’ decision to put safety above all other considerations.”
For travel trade professionals and aviation stakeholders, the update provides reassurance that the programme of precautionary actions is nearing completion across the global A320 Family fleet. As the remaining aircraft are modified and progressively return to service, airlines are expected to regain scheduling flexibility on affected routes, while Airbus reiterates that safety remains the primary driver behind these measures.
