Fraport Greece reports steady passenger traffic growth in 2025

 

Fraport Greece has presented updated figures on passenger traffic and airport performance for 2025, underscoring the continued importance of coordinated planning and sustainable growth in the country’s tourism sector. During a media briefing titled “Balancing Growth Through Shared Purpose,” the company outlined trends at the 14 regional airports it manages, along with the broader opportunities and challenges shaping Greek tourism.

According to George Vilos, Executive Director, Commercial & Business Development at Fraport Greece, passenger traffic during the first ten months of 2025 exceeded 35 million travellers, an increase of 2.7% compared with the sam
e period in 2024. October also showed positive momentum with a 3.7% rise in traffic, representing more than 125,000 additional passengers year-on-year. Since assuming operations, Fraport Greece has handled more than 248 million passengers across the 14 airports, significantly strengthening Greece’s connectivity and supporting the country’s tourism growth.

A panel discussion followed the presentation, featuring representatives from the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), INSETE and qed Social & Market Research. Speakers highlighted evolving trends in travel demand, seasonality, visitor behaviour and air transport, while emphasising the need for closer cooperation among public bodies, private-sector partners and local communities. The conversation also pointed to the importance of maintaining a balance between expanding tourism activity and safeguarding the social and environmental characteristics of each destination.

Fraport Greece CEO Alexander Zinell noted that the performance of the 14 regional airports reflects the resilience of Greek tourism and the country’s position in international markets. He added that the company remains committed to ongoing infrastructure investment and collaborative approaches that support more balanced development across regions.

Vilos reiterated that the upward trend in passenger traffic confirms the competitiveness of Greek destinations but also underscores the need for long-term planning. He pointed to continued improvements in services, infrastructure upgrades and the adoption of new technologies as priorities for enhancing the overall travel experience and contributing to the national strategy for sustainable tourism.
