Beloved by guests, often passionately discussed whenever changes occur, and an integral part of Austrian Airlines’ renowned hospitality and signature Austrian charm: the sweet treat served shortly before landing on every Austrian flight. Recently introduced and already a firm favorite among guests from Austria and abroad: the “Austria Mozartkugel” by Manner.
This cooperation between two brands that epitomize Austria represents a truly “sweet coup” — and not just in name. “Austrian hospitality is way more than a slogan for us – it’s something we live and breathe in every area. Especially when it comes to our culinary offerings, which we select with great care,” says Austrian Airlines CEO Annette Mann.
“Manner is, of course, not new to our onboard menu – the classic “Mannerschnitte” is one of the top sellers in our Austrian Melangerie. Being able to now treat our guests with one of Austria’s most traditional Mozartkugeln, produced entirely in Austria by Manner’s experts, is a wonderful next step.”
Manner CEO Dieter Messner is equally pleased about the partnership: “Each Austria Mozartkugel is made with great care and expertise at our production site in Wolkersdorf near Vienna – 100% made in Austria. We’re especially delighted that Austrian Airlines passengers around the world can now enjoy this authentic Austrian moment of indulgence.”
Overwhelming feedback – and a sweet that stays put
The Austria Mozartkugel has been flying around the world with Austrian Airlines for only a few weeks – yet the feedback from both Austrian and international guests has been overwhelmingly positive. Cabin crews report high demand and strong interest in the sweet treat from Manner. Thanks to a one-year cooperation agreement providing for the delivery of 12 million Austria Mozartkugeln, restocking won’t be an issue any time soon.
Fun fact: the distinctive design of the Austria Mozartkugel, featuring a small flat base, is especially practical for cabin crews – it keeps the chocolates from rolling off the tray tables.
A Manner specialty conquers the world
The Austria Mozartkugel from Manner is one of Austria’s oldest Mozartkugel varieties, known for its high marzipan content, unmistakable flavor, and characteristic shape with a small base.
It was originally created and perfected by the Victor Schmidt chocolate manufactory, which has been part of the Manner Group since 2000. Today, production takes place in Wolkersdorf, Lower Austria, with the same attention to detail and high quality standards that have always defined the brand.
Manner’s commitment to responsible production is also reflected in the Austria Mozartkugel: since 2024, the Wolkersdorf factory (as well as Manner’s headquarters in Vienna) has been powered exclusively by 100% renewable hydroelectric energy. A 6,000 m² photovoltaic system additionally covers a significant part of the plant’s energy needs.
All Austria Mozartkugeln are produced “from bean to bar”, ensuring a perfectly balanced flavor profile. Since 2020, the product has been made exclusively with 100% Fairtrade-certified cocoa, supporting smallholder farmers with fairer trading conditions, investments in social and environmental projects, and improved living and working standards. Manner is Austria’s largest Fairtrade partner in the cocoa sector
