Νew aircraft arrives; a familiar feature returns. With the introduction of its Airbus A350, SWISS is both starting a new chapter and restoring an old tradition: the new flagship of the SWISS aircraft fleet will take off with the print edition of the SWISS Magazine on board.
Sometimes all it takes is a single sound to evoke memories of the past – like the rustle of paper as the pages are turned of the inflight magazine. In a world that’s now faster and more digital than ever, SWISS is bringing such moments back for its guests.
A magazine that moves
“With the introduction of our new Airbus A350, we’re not only introducing the most advanced aircraft to SWISS, we’re also bringing back the SWISS Magazine as a printed edition,” says Léa Wertheimer, Head of Corporate Communications at SWISS. “After a three-year break, our inflight reading is back. For our guests, it’s a piece of familiarity that also opens up new stories. For the first time, we’re combining the tactile reading experience with digital extras: via QR codes, there are videos and additional images.”
As a special edition to mark the arrival of the Airbus A350, the magazine accompanies the jet from the initial idea through production at Airbus in Toulouse to the onboard experience. Wertheimer adds: “On 160 pages, the magazine shows how countless individual parts become a mighty aircraft, offers insights into the world of SWISS and aviation, inspires travel, and presents Switzerland at its best.”
Focus on the A350 – a view behind the scenes
Readers can accompany the Airbus A350 on its journey to becoming the new fleet flagship, delighting along the way in the new ‘SWISS Senses’ cabin worlds. In addition to this, the new print issue takes its readers to lively destinations like Seoul, and tells the stories of the people that make SWISS what it is – including a flight attendant who is making the bold transition to the cockpit crew corps. A number of extra features provide further entertainment: a challenging ‘Wimmelbild’ hidden object game for the kids, an A350 quiz for aviation fans, and a glimpse into the galleys, where top chef Tanja Grandits has a sweet secret to share.
A perfect symbiosis of print and digital
With its paper edition revived, the SWISS Magazine provides a new balance between print and online. The physical sensation of paging through the magazine delivers a sense of closeness to the content, while the digital expansions available at swiss.com/magazine open up new information dimensions. Read an article in the print magazine and you can view a corresponding video online; discover a destination in its pages and you’ll find more digital images, stories and tips to explore. The online SWISS Magazine further features a number of exclusive video formats such as ‘Behind the Wings’ and ‘Ask the Expert’, which each offer fascinating background insights into the world of SWISS.
Availability and distribution
With the arrival of our new Airbus A350, the special edition is available exclusively on board the flagship in seat pockets—as well as in the magazine racks of all long-haul aircraft and at selected locations such as First and Business Class lounges. This brings a piece of brand identity back to everyday travel.
The print version of the magazine is supplemented by an eJournal that SWISS travelers can download at any time onto their personal electronic device. The special-edition SWISS Magazine is also available to all interested parties online at swiss.com/magazine– as are all the past print issues.
