Our latest Week 32 Summer Flash Briefing looks back on a week when new weekend traffic records were set, with very high traffic in Central & South-East Europe, and much improved arrival punctuali-ty: up to 75% (+6.8 percentage points (pp) vs Week 31, and +4.8 pp vs 2024) in a week with no major network weather events.
Weekly air traffic in Europe was up 4% on the same week in 2024 with 35,332 daily flights, slightly below (-0.3%) Week 31’s total. However, new daily flight records for a Saturday and a Sunday were set on both Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 August (33,987 and 35,009 flights respectively). The busiest network day for reference remains a Friday in 2019 when 37,228 flights were recorded.
Air traffic flow management (ATFM) delays were 16% better than the equivalent week of 2024 and 36% better than weather-impacted Week 31, with an average of 7,455 daily flights (21% of all daily flights) delayed by ATFM restrictions.
Network hot spots: 26% of network delays were generated by France (capacity and staffing issues), 16% by Greece (staffing issues and weather), and 13% by Spain (capacity issues related to high demand). |
