Our latest Week 27 Summer Flash Briefing shows that while air traffic in Europe continues to grow, last week was strongly impacted by air traffic control (ATC) industrial action between 2-5 July 2025, leading to severe disruption for passengers, airlines and airports.
French ATC industrial action from 2 to 5 July 2025 caused 330,000 minutes of direct air traffic flow management (ATFM) delays and 43,000 minutes of indirect ATFM delays in adjacent ATC units as a result of the extra demand caused by re-routed flights.
There were 3,343 fewer flights to/from French airports compared to the previous week – all of which were cancelled as a result of the French ATC industrial action; additional flights might have been cancelled across Europe without the EUROCONTROL Network Manager being notified.
Overall, Week 27 saw 34,860 average daily flights, up 0.1% compared to Week 26 and +1% compared to 2024.
Network hot spots in Week 26 saw 50% of network delays generated by France (owing to industrial action coupled with staff shortages and capacity issues), 10% Spain (capacity and high traffic demand) and 10% by Germany (capacity issues and adverse weather).
