Airlines for America Congratulates Sean Duffy on Senate Confirmation to be Secretary of Transportation

The following statement is attributable to Airlines for America (A4A) President and CEO Nicholas E. Calio:

“Sean Duffy’s bipartisan confirmation vote is a testament to his character and the confidence the Senate has in how he will lead the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and advance America’s transportation infrastructure,” said Calio. “We believe Congressman Duffy’s ability to work both collaboratively with industry and strategically on behalf of the American people is exactly what the DOT needs at this time.

“Many challenges face the aviation industry — the air traffic controller staffing shortage, aging FAA technologies, capacity constraints and more — so it is vital that the DOT has a strong leader focused on tackling these critical issues. Commercial air travel in the U.S. is the safest mode of transportation in the world but keeping it that way requires desperately needed government attention and investment in both human and technology infrastructure.

“We look forward to working with Congressman Duffy as secretary to prioritize the safety and vitality of the National Airspace System for the traveling and shipping public, especially at a time of record air travel and increased dependence on air cargo shipments. A4A and our member carriers stand ready to work with him and the Trump Administration to continue connecting American communities, families and businesses with each other and the rest of the world.

“When President Trump nominated Congressman Duffy to be the Secretary of Transportation, he said:

Sean will use his experience and the relationships he has built over many years in Congress to maintain and rebuild our Nation’s Infrastructure and fulfill our Mission of ushering in The Golden Age of Travel, focusing on Safety, Efficiency, and Innovation.

“We couldn’t agree more. Sean Duffy is the right person at the right time to lead our nation’s transportation and infrastructure systems, and we are excited to get to work with him at the helm of the Department of Transportation.”
