Air Passenger Enplanements Up 4.6 percent Year Over Year in September 2024
Air Passenger Travel Between the United States and Europe Up Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) show that in September 2024:
U.S.-international air traffic passenger enplanements1 totaled:
21.144 million in September 2024, up 4.6 percent percent compared to September 2023, with enplanements reaching 105.4 percent of pre-pandemic September 2019 volume.
Originating Non-Stop Air Travel in September 2024
- Non-U.S. citizen air passenger arrivals to the United States from foreign countries totaled:
4.876 million in September 2024, up 3.0 percent compared to September 2023.
This represents 91.1 percent of pre-pandemic September 2019 volume.
On a related note, overseas visitor arrivals2 totaled 3.061 million in September 2024, the nineteenth consecutive month overseas visitor arrivals exceeded 2.0 million. - U.S. citizen air passenger departures from the United States to foreign countries totaled:
- 5.493 million in September 2024, up 2.4 percent compared to September 2023.
- This exceeded September 2019 volume by 22.2 percent.
World Region Highlights in September 2024 (APIS/I-92 arrivals + departures)
- Total air passenger travel (arrivals and departures) between the United States and other countries was led by Canada 2.772 million, Mexico 2.442 million, the United Kingdom 2.006 million, Germany 1.089 million, and France 887,000.
- International Regional air travel to/from the United States:
- Europe totaled 7.597 million passengers, up 5.3 percent over September 2023 and up 3.3 percent compared to September 2019.
- (U.S citizen departures were up 20.3 percent compared to September 2019, while European citizen arrivals were down -15.5 percent.)
- South/Central America/Caribbean totaled 4.176 million, down -08. percent from September 2023 and up 15.2 percent compared to September 2019.
- Asia totaled 2.390 million passengers, up 11.8 percent over September 2023, but down (-21.4 percent) compared to September 2019.
- (Asian citizen arrivals to the U.S. were down -30.8 percent compared to September 2019, and U.S. citizen departures were +2.9 percent)
- Europe totaled 7.597 million passengers, up 5.3 percent over September 2023 and up 3.3 percent compared to September 2019.
- Top U.S. Ports serving international locations were New York (JFK) 3.075 million, Los Angeles (LAX) 2.002 million, Miami (MIA) 1.695 million, San Francisco (SFO) 1.352 million, and Newark (EWR) 1.314 million.
- Top Foreign Ports serving U.S. locations were London Heathrow (LHR) 1.640 million, Toronto (YYZ) 1.031 million, Paris (CDG) 778,000, Frankfurt (FRA) 706,000, and Mexico City (MEX) 641,000.
