Alstom delivers the first 60 of its new high-capacity trams to Göteborg in Sweden

Alstom, a global leader in sustainable and smart mobility, has successfully delivered the first of 60 new, longer and higher-capacity trams to Göteborg, Sweden.

This marks a significant milestone in the ongoing modernization of the city’s public transportation system, aimed at increasing capacity, improving passenger experience, and reducing environmental impact.

The new trams, part of the Flexity family, are specifically designed to meet the growing demands of Göteborg’s public transport network.

They are longer than the previous models, offering a substantial increase in passenger capacity.

This enhancement is crucial for Göteborg, a city that has seen steady growth in population and, consequently, in the number of public transport users.

The new trams are expected to ease congestion during peak hours and provide a more comfortable and efficient journey for daily commuters.

These trams are not just about capacity; they are also designed with the latest technology to ensure a smooth and reliable service.

Each tram is equipped with modern amenities, including real-time passenger information systems, energy-efficient LED lighting, and advanced safety features.

The trams are fully accessible, with low floors and wide doors, making them convenient for all passengers, including those with reduced mobility. Sustainability is at the core of this project.

The new trams are designed to be energy-efficient, utilizing regenerative braking systems that reduce energy consumption and lower the overall carbon footprint of the city’s transportation network.

This aligns with Göteborg’s commitment to becoming a leading city in terms of sustainability and green urban development.

Alstom’s delivery of these new trams is part of a broader collaboration with Västtrafik, the regional public transport authority in Västra Götaland County, which includes Göteborg.

The project, valued at several hundred million euros, underscores the city’s ambition to expand and modernize its tram network, providing a reliable and sustainable transport solution for the future.

The introduction of these higher capacity trams is expected to have a significant impact on public transportation in Göteborg.

With their increased capacity and advanced features, the trams will not only improve the efficiency of the transport network but also contribute to a reduction in traffic congestion and pollution, promoting a cleaner and more efficient urban environment.

Alstom has a longstanding relationship with Göteborg, having supplied trams to the city for several decades.

This latest delivery reinforces Alstom’s commitment to supporting the city’s vision of a modern, sustainable, and efficient public transport system.

The new trams will undergo a series of tests before being integrated into the existing network.

The full fleet of 60 trams is expected to be delivered by 2025, progressively replacing older models and expanding the city’s tram capacity.

As Göteborg continues to grow, the delivery of these new trams represents a forward-looking investment in the city’s future, ensuring that public transport remains a viable and attractive option for all residents and visitors.
