This January, I decided to take a trip from Toronto to Iceland, as the glaciers are melting, considering it to be the opportune time to witness it. All covered in my crampons, harness, and snowsuit, I stood at the bottom of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier in, one of the giant natural ice cubes of Iceland. Due to climate change, these monstrous glaciers are melting at an alarming rate, as explained by the guides. As a result, tourists like me are rushing to experience these wonders whatsoever!

Overseas tourists have doubles in Iceland from 2010 to 2015. Cheap flights from WOW Air, one of the most profitable airlines based in Reykjavik, has contributed a lot to this increase as well. Besides, seeing the glaciers has remained another strong reason for increased tourists to Iceland in recent times. According to a 2014 report from the OECD, 80 percent of tourists decided on the destination because of “Icelandic nature.

More than 75.7 percent of the Icelanders have been surveyed by the tourist board last year who disclosed that pressure of the visitors on Icelandic nature is increasing with time. To utter dismay, the country has overrun Disneyland in terms of visitor infiltration. To go with the flow, the government of late introduced a new tax on tourists, with up to 2.3 million people expected to visit this year.
