Tourists can offset their carbon footprint in Peru.

Under the agreement made by Condor Travel, the SERNANP [Servicio Nacional de Areas Protegidas por el Estado (National Service of Protected Natural Areas)], and the NGO AIDER [Asociación para la Investigación y el Desarrollo Integral (Association for Research and Integral Development), tourists can offset their carbon emissions in South America and contribute to preserving areas in the Tambopata National Reserve and the Bahuaja-Sonene zone.
For an average 5-day trip in South America, it is estimated that one tourist emits 0.7 tons of carbon. Through the cited agreement, tourists can now contribute the equivalent of one ton of carbon credits to the project that the SERNANP, Condor Travel, and AIDER will be supporting in the Tambopata National Reserve.
In the words of Sammy Niego, President of Condor Travel, “Condor Travel believes it is very important to preserve our natural resources. Tourists will have the option to purchase a carbon bond through this program, thereby mitigating the carbon footprint left by their trip in the country.”
