Singapore Airlines extends Christchurch services

Singapore Airlines has announced 18 additional return flights to Christchurch for the summer 2014-15 season.
The new services will add around 9,760 seats into the South Island market, and more than double the number of supplementary flights planned for the 2013-14 period.

The carrier, which has been flying direct to Christchurch for almost 30 years, will announced a full schedule for the new additions in the coming months.

Matthew Findlay, the airport’s general manager aeronautical business development, commented: “To have Singapore Airlines commit to these new flights so far out is a real testament, both to the ongoing support of the international carrier for the South Island market and the growing strength of the local visitor sector.”

Findlay believes the new flights will offer passengers the opportunity to experience the opening of the ICC 2015 Cricket World Cup, hosted by Christchurch.

He said: “As the Christchurch rebuild begins in earnest and the city – and region – are able to once again host these kinds of international events, it’s vital that we have the support of partners like Singapore Airlines to ensure they have every chance at success.”

The Christchurch International Airport aeronautical business development team is planning an industry update on the new services in the future.
