European Aviation Conference 2013

The EAC
Now in its second year, the 2013 European Aviation Conference is a forum to discuss and find solutions to important current aviation policy issues, bringing the industry together with researchers and government officials from America, Europe and Asia. This year’s EAC will be at the University of St Gallen in Switzerland on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd of November.
The main theme
Backed by the University of St Gallen, the German Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR), the Wildau Institute of Technology, and the Dutch Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Milieu amongst others, the overarching theme of the conference is managing airport infrastructure in the presence of risk and competition.
The keynote lecture
This year, the Martin Kunz Memorial Lecture on Air Transport, Economics and Policy will be given by the distinguished academic, international consultant and former UK regulator, Professor Stephen Littlechild of the University of Cambridge.
A different format
Prompted by feedback last year, EAC 2013 will include both shorter discussion sessions and one much longer moderated debate. Most of the opening day of the conference will be devoted to an extended and moderated debate between the advocates and the critics of airport price regulation, and will include ten presentations either for or against regulation.  Later sessions that day will analyse the range of different risks to which aviation is currently subject, and the different approaches to managing them.

The second conference day will start with the keynote Lecture. This will be followed by presentations on how to improve the management of aviation infrastructure given economic, technological and safety risks. The final session of the conference will analyse the appropriate mix of state and market policies to manage the air transport industry given the level of uncertainty.
